Lulworth

We awoke to the news that the Azerbaijan carpet museum looks like a carpet.

We headed down to breakfast at our allocated time of 9.30 to find ourselves the only ones there. They rustled up our two full English’s in record time, and before we knew it we were off. My planned route was closed due to sudden gunfire (some of which we heard) so we had to make a bit of a detour. First stop Lulworth cove with a walk over to Durdle Door. We’ve been a few times and both are still spectacular, and very busy! The South Coast wind was still with us, with the rain not far behind. We have also tried every shop in Corfe Castle and Lulworth for a headband or bandana, to no avail. So today I am sporting a natty little number I like to call ‘Head Ankle Support.’

I know, the weather looks lovely, but on the way back the heavens opened, and with the Gale we got soaked. Luckily Ian’s car has heated seats and we were soon dry.

We carried on along the coast till we came to Weymouth, where we stopped for some lunch. We have been before but have no memory. In the chav stakes we found it slightly more refined than Swanage. It also has a great area right at the end of the beach for dogs, and loads were taking advantage of this. We sat outside at a little tea room as the rain had subsided.

The famous Last railing pose

Windy Weymouth

The road out of Weymouth is famously spectacular, and you can see for miles over Chesil beach

We arrived at the seaside boarding house in the teeth of a force ten. It’s right on the beach and the waves were pounding. Great! Our room, on the first floor, was no problem to Misty who flew up the stairs like a dog with no psychological fears. Room is lovely with a huge bathroom and I found these beauties hanging behind the door.

We immediately rushed down to the dog friendly beach, as you do

The seaside boarding house doesn't have tea and coffee making facilities in your room, you have to phone and they bring it you on a silver tray, to drink in your fluffy robe while reading Tennyson

We headed down for tea, or Dinner as they call it here. Misty was once again allowed. The view from the restaurant is fabulous, out over the waves. Ian had a John Dory with mussels clams and head. I had the sea bass

The seaside boarding house don’t have TVs in your room, but they were very happy to set one up in the bar for Ian and I to watch Italy beat Spain and reach the Euro final. Staff are very nice and helpful. Afterwards, tired and replete, Misty skipped up the stairs to bed.

  1. Great photos. I especially was pleased to see the Last railing pose. The hotel looks great but I hope they will supply a television for tonight's match.
